1. Introduction

The Empower Network, Inc. & The Empower Collective ("The Empower Network," "TEN," “The Membership” "we," "our," or "us") is a peer-led, community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people living with chronic illness and disability.

These Community Standards outline how we commit to showing up with respect, confidentiality, and inclusion. All members, volunteers, presenters, and participants agree to uphold these standards while engaging in The Empower Network's spaces, whether online or in person.

2. Confidentiality

  • What's shared in The Empower Collective spaces stays in The Empower Collective spaces.

  • Respect the privacy of others' personal stories, health information, and business ideas.

  • Do not share screenshots, recordings, or identifiable information outside the group without explicit permission.

  • Confidentiality obligations remain in place even after you leave The Empower Network.

3. Respectful Engagement

  • Treat all members of the community with kindness, dignity, and respect.

  • Be mindful of space and time in group discussions - share your voice, but also make room for others to speak and be heard.

  • Harassment, bullying, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.

  • This includes - but is not limited to - ableism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ageism, or other forms of marginalization and exclusion.

  • Listen actively, acknowledge different lived experiences, and avoid dismissive or harmful language.

4. Ownership of Materials

  • Participants retain full ownership of any original works, ideas, or content they share within The Empower Network community spaces. By sharing content, you grant other participants a limited, personal-use license to view and engage with your contribution within that community space. This does not include the right to copy, distribute, screenshot, share externally, or use your work for any commercial purpose.

  • The Empower Network will not republish, redistribute, or repurpose individual member contributions to The Empower Network community spaces in any external context without your explicit agreement.

  • The Empower Network may share generalized summaries of group discussions or relevant resources for broader educational or outreach purposes. All such summaries will be anonymized and will not include any personally identifiable, sensitive, or confidential information.

5. Intellectual Property

All content, curriculum, resources, templates, recordings, worksheets, frameworks, and materials made available through The Empower Collective membership (collectively, "TEN Content") are the exclusive intellectual property of The Empower Network and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and intellectual property laws.

Your membership grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use TEN Content for your own personal, non-commercial purposes only.

You may not, without prior written consent from The Empower Network:

  • Copy, reproduce, screenshot, record, or download TEN Content for distribution

  • Share, forward, or provide access to TEN Content with any non-member, including through private sharing, group chats, or social media

  • Use TEN Content - in whole or in part - to create, develop, or inform any product, course, program, service, or offer for sale or distribution

  • Adapt, modify, or create derivative works based on TEN Content

  • Use TEN Content for any commercial purpose whatsoever

Membership access is granted to the individual account holder only and may not be shared, transferred, or gifted to another person.

Any violation of these terms constitutes copyright infringement and/or a material breach of this agreement, and may result in immediate termination of membership without refund and/or legal action to recover damages. The Empower Network reserves all rights not expressly granted herein.

6. Inclusivity & Accessibility

  • We are committed to learning and practicing disability-informed care and inclusive practices.

  • Accessibility is an ongoing process. If something feels exclusionary, inaccessible, or harmful, we welcome your feedback.

  • The Empower Network commits to listening and making changes where possible to better serve our community.

7. Boundaries, Solicitation & Conflicts of Interest

The Empower Network community spaces are for connection, education, and support - not unsolicited promotion.

  • Respect boundaries when networking; consent is key in building meaningful connections.

  • Members and volunteers should disclose potential conflicts of interest when engaging in collaborations, business opportunities, or partnerships discovered through The Empower Network community. Transparency protects trust in the community.

No Private Benefit or Endorsement

There may be opportunities to share information about community member’s own services (such as coaching, consulting, or products for sale) through the membership directory or community platforms. These listings are provided for networking purposes only. Inclusion in the directory does not represent an endorsement, certification, or guarantee by The Empower Network. Any relationship, contract, or transaction you enter into with another member is solely between you and that member.

The Empower Network, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Consistent with federal tax law, the organization does not operate for the private benefit of any individual, member, or business. TEN does not promote, market, or facilitate business on behalf of members, and no member may represent their participation in the community as an endorsement, sponsorship, or approval by The Empower Network.

8. Safeguarding

  • Members, volunteers, and presenters must also uphold The Empower Network's Safeguarding Policy, which prohibits exploitation, abuse, or harmful conduct.

  • Concerns about unsafe, inappropriate, or harmful behavior should be reported promptly to The Empower Network leadership at support@empower-network.org.

  • The Empower Network may remove or restrict individuals whose behavior compromises - or could reasonably be perceived to compromise - the safety or wellbeing of the community. Such action may be precautionary and does not in itself imply wrongdoing.

9. Media & Recording Consent

  • The Empower Network records select sessions or events for educational or archival purposes.

  • Participants will be notified in advance if a session is being recorded.

  • You may choose not to be recorded by disabling video, using a display name only, or opting out of participation.

10. Accountability

  • The Empower Network reserves the right to pause, suspend, or revoke membership or volunteer roles if these standards are violated.

  • Concerns will be addressed with respect and fairness, but maintaining a safe and supportive community is our priority.

  • Enforcement decisions may be precautionary in nature and do not in themselves imply wrongdoing.

11. Closing

By participating in The Empower Network community spaces, you commit to these Community Standards. Together, we are building a safe, and supportive space for people living with chronic illness and disability.

12. Agreement to Other Policies

These Community Standards work in connection with other policies adopted by The Empower Network, including (but not limited to) our Privacy Policy, Safeguarding Policy, Membership Agreement, and Website Terms of Use, all available at www.empower-network.org. These policies will be reviewed and updated as needed.
